Sandstone History Center Collection Grows with Community Contributions

The Sandstone History Center would not exist if it were not for our volunteers, members, and the community. We’d like to take time to acknowledge and thank some people who have recently donated wonderful, historical items to the History Center.
This last summer, James Olson contacted the History Center about some old photo negatives he had in his possession that belonged to his grandfather. He believed that there may be some photos from the early 1900s of Sandstone. We arranged to meet at the History Center and were able to digitize those negatives. James and his family were able to add these items to their family history, and we were able to add copies to the History Center archives. A win for both of us!
Recently Steve Harrison purchased the “Gas Light” building in town, and he donated many items from the interior of the building to the New Life Thrift Shop. One of those items was a metal advertising sign for the Quarryman’s State Bank. The “Gas Light” building was originally built in 1902 to house the Quarryman’s State Bank. The New Life Thrift Shop donated this item of historical significance to the History Center. Thank you!
Today, long time supporter Loren Else stopped by the History Center. Loren provided ten, signed copies of books he had written to be sold to raise funds for the History Center. He also donated a beautifully framed 1970-71 Sandstone Panthers basketball schedule. What an awesome piece of memorabilia to add to our “Rock” collection at the History Center!
“Spring cleaning” is right around the corner. If you have some Sandstone history items laying around, please consider donating them to the Sandstone History Center where they will be preserved and enjoyed by generations to come. Or if you have historical photos, negatives, slides, 8mm film, documents, etc. you are not quite ready to part with, we can arrange to try and digitize these items.
Thank you once again to James, New Life Thrift Shop, and Loren!!!
